Kano Zoo Moves to Recover Python Captured by Hunters

‎The Agency’s Managing Director, Musayyib Kawu Ungogo, led a team of officials on an assessment visit to the residence of the Head of Daneji Ward following reports that the reptile had entered the premises, causing anxiety among residents.

Speaking during the visit, the Head of Daneji Ward, Abba Lawan, said his son first noticed what appeared to be a large python entering one of the rooms in the house.

He explained that the incident was immediately reported to the police, who responded promptly but were initially unable to locate the reptile.

Residents said the python was suspected to have escaped from the residence of former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, where it had reportedly gone missing since last year.

According to Lawan, after the initial search, the police contacted a member of the former Accountant-General’s household, identified as Alolo, who mobilised local hunters from Wangara. The hunters searched the building for about one and a half hours before breaking part of a wall to gain access and capture the snake.

‎KAZOWMA officials also visited the residence of the former Accountant-General to obtain further information on the incident.

However, Ahmed Idris was unavailable, while a representative declined to provide details, saying only that the python had already been taken away by the hunters.

Speaking after the assessment, the Managing Director of KAZOWMA, Musayyib Kawu Ungogo, assured residents that the Agency would make every effort to recover the python and place it under its custody to ensure proper handling and safeguard public safety.

He warned that the Agency would enforce relevant wildlife regulations against individuals found keeping dangerous wild animals without the required authorisation, including the confiscation of such animals where necessary.

‎Ungogo also urged residents across Kano State to remain vigilant and promptly report sightings of dangerous or wild animals to KAZOWMA for immediate response, reaffirming the Agency’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and wildlife.
