Kano, July 27, 2026 (NAN) The Federal Government has commenced the training of no fewer than 700 youths in Kano State in various vocational skills to promote entrepreneurship and reduce unemployment.
National Coordinator of the programme, Associate Prof. Badamasi Lawal, represented by Mr Musbahu Yunusa-Makama, disclosed this on Monday while inaugurating the training in Kano.
Lawal explained that the participants were selected through an online process where applicants registered on the programme’s website.
He said that successful candidates were notified through text messages or email before reporting to their designated training centres.
Lawal said that the programme is being implemented in six training centres across the state: Gani, Bagauda, Tiga, Dambatta, Fagge, and Kano Municipal.
According to Lawal, the 5-day training combines theoretical and practical sessions designed to equip participants with entrepreneurial and technical skills.
The theoretical aspect will expose participants to entrepreneurship, business management, risk management, and other essential knowledge, while the practical session will focus on hands-on vocational training,”he said.
The national coordinator said that participants are enrolled in 15 distinct trades, including plumbing, vulcanising, automobile repairs, tailoring, masonry, jewellery making, grinding, electrical installation, catering, cooking, and housekeeping.
Speaking on the distribution, the Fagge Training Centre Manager, Mr Inusa-Isyaku, noted that his centre alone has about 145 participants drawn from different local government areas of the state.
One of the beneficiaries, Alhassan Sani-Mustapha from Tofa Local Government Area, who spoke on behalf of the participants, said that he enrolled in the plumbing trade to acquire practical skills that would enable him to become self-reliant.
Similarly, Miss Fatima Zakari described the programme as an opportunity to acquire vocational skills and improve livelihoods.
She added that the training would empower beneficiaries to establish their own businesses, earn sustainable incomes, contribute to the economic well-being of their families, and particularly encourage women to become financially independent through entrepreneurship.
