The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has conducted a post-funding verification of a N56.6 million solar power project at Kiru General Hospital to assess its implementation and impact on healthcare service delivery.
The Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, led the verification team to inspect the project, which was funded with N56,619,370 disbursed to the hospital on March 12, 2026.
The intervention was aimed at providing uninterrupted electricity supply to improve healthcare services and support the operation of critical medical equipment.
Speaking during the visit, Zahraddeen expressed satisfaction with the execution of the project, saying the solar power installation had enhanced the hospital’s capacity to provide efficient and uninterrupted healthcare services.
She said the verification exercise was part of the fund’s commitment to ensuring accountability, transparency and value for public investments in the health sector.
According to her, regular post-funding assessments are necessary to ensure that projects financed by the fund are executed according to specification and deliver the intended benefits to residents.
Zahraddeen attributed the successes recorded by KHETFUND to the support of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, whom she said had prioritised the health sector through sustained investments and reforms.
She also commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, for providing leadership that had strengthened healthcare delivery across the state.
The management of Kiru General Hospital thanked KHETFUND and the Kano State Government for the intervention, describing the solar power project as timely and impactful.
The management said the installation had improved hospital operations by ensuring reliable electricity supply for essential medical equipment and enhancing patient care.
KHETFUND said the verification exercise formed part of its broader strategy to monitor the performance, sustainability and impact of projects funded across healthcare facilities in the state. (NAN)
