The Weekly Mobile Environmental Sanitation Court of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) has sanctioned four establishments along Bompai Road, Kano, over alleged sanitation violations.
The affected establishments are Domino’s Pizza, Jalsa Shop, FCMB Bank and Nasarawa Suya Spot.
The establishments were brought before the court following inspections which revealed various environmental sanitation infractions on their premises.
The infractions included overgrown vegetation, indiscriminate disposal of waste, cobwebs, accumulation of unwanted materials, inadequate provision of waste bins and poor general environmental hygiene.
The court, presided over by Justice Halima A. B. Wali, with Barrister Bahijja H. Aliyu, imposed a two-week imprisonment sentence or an option of a fine on the affected establishments.
The Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr Muhammad Salisu Khalil, urged residents, business owners, corporate organisations and other establishments to take environmental sanitation seriously.
Khalil, in a statement signed by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ahmad, advised members of the public to dispose of waste responsibly and provide adequate waste receptacles on their premises.
He also urged them to regularly clear overgrown vegetation, keep drainage channels free of obstruction and maintain functional sanitation facilities.
The managing director said environmental cleanliness was a shared responsibility and stressed that REMASAB would continue to enforce the state’s sanitation laws fairly and consistently.
He called on residents and organisations to maintain clean and orderly surroundings to promote a healthier environment across the state.
