The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has conducted a post-funding verification of a N48 million medical equipment intervention at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH), confirming that the procured equipment has been delivered and is in use.
The Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, said the verification was part of the agency’s oversight responsibility to ensure that funds released to health institutions were judiciously utilise.
Zahraddeen, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties, Hamisu Abubakar, said the fund disbursed N48 million to the hospital on Oct. 9, 2025, under its 2025 Regular Intervention Programme.
She said the intervention was meant for the procurement of an ultrasound scanning machine, an autoclave and a baby incubator to improve diagnostic and therapeutic services at the hospital.
According to her, the verification team confirmed that the equipment had been delivered, installed and integrated into routine clinical services.
“Our mandate is to ensure that every naira allocated to public health facilities translates into improved healthcare delivery and better outcomes for patients.
”The successful deployment of the ultrasound machine, autoclave and baby incubator demonstrates that the intervention has achieved its intended objective.
“We will continue to strengthen post-funding monitoring to ensure accountability, sustainability and value for public funds,” she said.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Hadiza Sa’id, commended KHETFUND for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.
Sa’id said the equipment had enhanced the hospital’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services, particularly in maternal, child health and emergency care.
She added that the intervention had reduced patient waiting time for diagnostic services and improved neonatal care through the deployment of the new incubator.
The Nookcrannies reports that the verification exercise forms part of the Kano State Government’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and strengthen service delivery across public health institutions in the state.
