The Kano State Shari’a Commission has urged parents to instil sound moral and religious values in their children to promote discipline and responsible behaviour in society.
The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Sheikh Abbas Abubakar-Daneji, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Kano.
Abubakar-Daneji said proper upbringing and parental guidance were essential in shaping children’s character and building a morally upright society.
He said parents were the foundation of their children’s behaviour and have a major role to play in preparing them to become responsible members of society.
“Parents are the backbone of a child’s behaviour and the future of the next generation.
“Therefore, they must provide proper upbringing and ensure that their children are guided by sound moral and religious values,” Abubakar-Daneji advocated.
He further explained that the commission would intensify religious teachings through da’awah, seminars, and awareness campaigns in markets and other public places to promote moral discipline and peaceful coexistence.
The executive chairman added that people should study and practice the exemplary lives of past generations and pass their positive moral values on to younger ones.
“Increased knowledge of Islamic teachings will contribute significantly to building a peaceful, disciplined, and responsible society,” he said.
Abubakar-Daneji also appealed to commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as “Adaidaita Sahu”, to stop carrying female passengers beside them in the front seat.
He said the commission would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to promote moral discipline and address social challenges confronting the state.
The executive chairman commended the state government for its support and cooperation which he said was yielding positive results.
He observed that the partnership had helped in cubing challenges associated with drug abuse, thuggery, phone snatching, burglary, and the spread of immoral content on social media. (NAN)
