The New Turn for Youth Enthusiasm and Development (N-YED) has urged Nigerian youths to unite, set aside their differences and work collectively toward achieving common development goals.
The Executive Director of N-YED, Amb. Abdussalam Haruna Sulaiman, made the call in a statement on Wednesday to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day.
The day, marked annually on Aug. 12, has as its 2026 theme: “Different Context, Common Aspiration.”
Sulaiman said the theme reflected the diversity, aspirations, commitment and perseverance of young people across different backgrounds and circumstances.
He said that despite differences in pathways, backgrounds, nationalities and challenges, young people could achieve greater impact by working together toward common objectives.
“As youth, hope, aspiration, dedication, determination and collective commitment must be at the forefront of our journey despite our differences.
“N-YED calls on young people to unify their targets, set aside differences and work together to achieve a common goal,” he said.
Sulaiman said N-YED had recorded several achievements in youth development in Nigeria in 2026.
He listed them to include the launch of the Youth Voices in Good Leadership Platform, through which 200 young men and women were engaged through physical and virtual sessions.
He also said the organisation, in partnership with the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), implemented an eight-week creativity and skills training programme for out-of-school youths in Medile community, with 25 beneficiaries completing the first cohort.
According to him, N-YED also participated in various radio programmes on youth development, providing platforms for discussions on issues affecting young people.
He added that the organisation had been integrated as a partner in Kano under the GATEWAY programme, implemented by CcHUB in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation in Nigeria.
Sulaiman said the Gig Work Accelerator programme would support talent empowerment and career advancement among young people.
“There is no doubt that if we build a stronger collective voice, our demands will not be disregarded at any table.
“We need inclusion and recognition in decision-making and development planning in Nigeria,” he said.
The executive director reaffirmed N-YED’s commitment to creating opportunities that would enable young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to national development.
