CELOHA Nigeria, in partnership with WAN Network, has urged the Federal and Borno State Governments and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe release of schoolchildren abducted in Borno.

The organisations made the call in a joint statement issued on Friday, expressing concern over the continued captivity of the children.

They said the prolonged captivity of the children exposed them to further risks and raised serious concerns about their safety, education, dignity and fundamental rights.

“Every additional day they remain in the hands of armed groups exposes them to further risks,” the organisations said.

They urged the government to make the safe rescue and return of the children a matter of urgent national priority, using all lawful and appropriate measures to protect their lives and wellbeing.

The organisations also called on political leaders and government institutions not to allow preparations for the 2027 general elections to overshadow the security and humanitarian needs of the affected children and their families.

They said CELOHA Nigeria and WAN Network would continue to advocate for the protection of children against abduction, violence, exploitation and other forms of abuse.

The organisations further urged the government to provide regular and transparent updates to the affected families and the public on efforts to secure the children’s release.

They, however, cautioned that such communication should not disclose operational information capable of compromising rescue efforts.

“The children deserve to return home. Their safety must come first. Their future cannot wait,” the organisations said.
