The Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT) says it is committed to developing innovative solutions to health challenges through scientific research, healthcare delivery and training of young scientists.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of KIRCT, Prof. Aliyu Abdu, said this at the opening of an Advanced Bioinformatics Workshop organised by the centre in Kano.

Abdu said building local research capacity was essential to addressing existing and emerging health challenges in Nigeria and beyond.

He said the centre was equipped with modern research facilities that enabled scientists to conduct advanced studies locally, reducing the need to travel abroad for specialised research.

According to him, researchers at the centre are working on critical health areas, including genomics, breast cancer, antimicrobial resistance and vaccines.

He said KIRCT had established partnerships with research institutions within and outside the region and was working to expand its international collaborations.

Abdu urged participants to apply the knowledge and skills acquired at the workshop to advance scientific research and improve healthcare outcomes.

He commended the diversity of participants, particularly the gender balance, and expressed appreciation to Pfizer Inc. and the Kano State Government for supporting the centre.

The chairman also commended the board and management for their contributions to achieving the centre’s objectives.

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Health Services and member of the Board of Trustees, Dr Ibrahim Musa Idris, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the centre.

Idris said the administration of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf was pleased with the progress recorded by KIRCT.

He expressed optimism that the centre would attain global recognition through its contributions to scientific research and the development of innovative solutions to health challenges.

Idris urged participants to maximise the training opportunity and use the knowledge gained to contribute to scientific advancement and improved healthcare delivery.
