The Minister of Works, Mr David Umahi, has commended Kano State for its reported recognition as Nigeria’s cleanest city.
Umahi described the recognition as an encouraging milestone in efforts to promote environmental sustainability, improve urban sanitation and ensure a healthier living environment.
This is contained in a statement issued by Abubakar Ahmad, Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), on Tuesday in Kano.
The statement said the commendation underscored the need for sustained commitment to sanitation management, responsible waste disposal and public participation in maintaining a clean environment.
It quoted REMASAB as reaffirming its commitment to strengthening sanitation operations, improving waste management and promoting environmental responsibility across Kano metropolis and its environs.
The board urged residents, business owners and other stakeholders to sustain the progress by disposing of refuse at designated collection points and keeping their surroundings clean.
It also cautioned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, stressing that maintaining a clean and healthy environment required continuous collaboration between the government and residents.
According to the statement, every resident has a role to play in protecting the environment and sustaining improvements in sanitation management.
REMASAB, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Dr Muhammad S. Khalil, reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts towards a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Kano State.
